You have a valid point, but here is the rub. Tradition has never been a reliable source of detailed historical information. Just as I would never urge an indigenous person to jettison his or her faith, I would never expect or want the secular community to abandon what we have learned from anthropology and archaeology. I would add that many people in the West have given up literal beliefs in many Jewish abd Christian narratives, but still find solace and guidance in those religions. I donʻt know how else you reconcile traditions with the new knowledge that we are steadily unearthing. I take it as a given that societies unable to adapt to change (including changes in our knowledge) will eventually fail.
