Wow … body shame and insecurity run rampant in our culture. We were expected to shower (group shower, no curtains) after P.E. through both junior high and high school. The first couple of days may have been awkward, but no one seemed unduly concerned. My challenge, as a boy struggling with unwanted, same-sex attraction, was how to check out a couple of the most appealing guys without being noticed … while still nursing the conviction (or hope) that the desire to look at Jeff’s bubble butt was just a passing phase.
