That is certainly true … I think the criteria used for rating the presidents emphasizes skill and accomplishment over morality. One can be an utter scoundrel, devoid of conscience, and still be highly talented—and, if he or she is concerned about his or her legacy, do an admirable job.

While he is definitely not an intellectual, nor even particularly curious, Trump is obviously very cunning and cleary saw the sense of grievance and alienation that pervaded rural, small town America. What will always puzzle me is why he made so little effort, after the 2016 election, to reach out and expand his base.
