Thanks for the comment, Paul. I totally agree that adrift from any moral moorings we can wind up in some very extreme places (although regrettably, many who profess to be anchored to a respectable moral system and or faith can also rationalize some fairly horrific beliefs). I think perhaps we divide ourselves into three different tribes: the amoral, those who profess a morality that they do not consistently practice, and then there are those all-too-rare birds--those whose lives consistently reflect their moral creed. Would be nice if there were more of the latter!
