So Mass. Is the only state with more than three in its congressional delegation, with all of them being Democrats? Perhaps we’re too new, being #50, or possibly too remote (at least Jeff Sessions knew that Hawaiʻi was “an island”)?

All of which is to say that the Aloha State is not only true blue, but it is far bluer than your little east coast commonwealth! A few years back a Republican was elected to the state senate and was delighted to become minority leader during his first term .., he also happened to be the entire minority caucus!

Of course, our governor is also a Democrat … in fact, we have only had one governor who was not a Democrat in the 63 years since we became a state ,,, and only one member of the stateʻs congressional delegation has ever been a Republican.

But, an anomaly: weʻre the only state that also has an honest-to-goodness royal family (unemployed, of course, since a coup led by Americans in 1893 paved the way for Americaʻs illegal annexation of the kingdom). The man who would likely be king today, had the U.S. not gotten carried away with sll of that manifest destiny nonsense, served in the legislature for a time … as, of all things, a Republican.
