On Transgender Issues …

I recently pubished a story titled ‘The Great Transgender Crisis of 2021.’ In it, I pretended to be someone upset by transgender activists who, in this person’s view, posed a threat to the cisgender community. The article was entirely satirical and I used it to show that the flurry of legislation restricting transgender rights is nothing more than a red herring by people with a wholly different agenda.

I felt that the satirical nature of the story was clear, but was apparently mistaken in that regard as the story was flagged. I have subsequently chosen to delete it rather than to try to edit a work of satire. Let me be clear: I am a gay writer strongly supportive of the transgender community. Laws passed this spring regarding public bathroom access, trans athletes, gender dysphoria treatment, etc. are an embarrassment to this nation and no different than similar laws once passed to restrict the rights of women, racial minorities and other sexual minorities. These laws are extemely harmful — especially to our youth, and I chose satire as a means to demonstrate how absurd they are.

If anyone in the transgender community reading this was offended by my article, please understand that that was the exact opposite of my intent. The entire history of this nation can be read as one oppressed community after another struggling to find a place at the table. If you are a trans person, please know that you have allies and you will get there.
