"I’d like to think a couple of them at least considered some of the uncomfortable facts I brought up ..."

Sadly, that is the only sentence that you wrote which I am inclined to disagree with. I am a 70-year-old white guy, originally from the Midwest, and have followed or been involved in politics since childhood. I. too. have had numerous exchanges with MAGA types (many in my own family) and have tried to meet their talking points with reason and facts--to no avail whatsoever. Forty years of propaganda by the Koch network and its allies (including the Republican Party, which today is little more than a subsidiary of the network) have turned a false sense of victimization into a religion--and the faithful cling to their irrational beliefs like a drowning person clings to a lifesaver. If, as you indicate, you enjoy engaging in these exchanges because you like to see the response to your calm presentation of facts with which they are not familiar, then by all means continue. But if you are hoping to occasionally bring one of them back to consensual reality after they have swallowed the Kool-Aid, I fear that you are in for a long wait.

Moved by a conviction that we humans--gifted with reason--can do so much better than we are; asks how both politics and faith can better serve humanity's needs.
