Hmmm ... single-handed , I would wager that you have probably doubled the number of times that "Close Door" buttons in American elevators were pushed in the month of May! But regardless of how many of the damned things actually work, I am sure that you are correct when you assign a placebo function to them. I just came home after a short stroll across the neighborhood, and I did notice a well-dressed young man standing at a crosswalk, using one thumb to repeatedly push the "Walk" button! (I counted at least twenty times)!
