Great story, and I can relate. When I was six I reprimanded my father for choosing to live in the Midwest, rather than Hawai'i. I never wavered from that stance and for my high school graduation, my parents gave me a set of luggage--they knew I would be heading out. I confess that I am mystified by the number of young people today who seem to have little or no motivation to leave the nest and create their own unique lives. I thought that impulse was instinctive, and that the vast majority were programmed that way, but something has changed.

In any event, congratulations to both you and your father. And, by the way, I do now live in Hawai'i.
