First, let me say that I totally agree with the thrust of your article--a liberated gay community is a community that includes 'boring' gay couples who aspire to live the same life their parents lived, as well as radicals who spend their lives confronting and defying every social norm that has been imposed on them. Need we remind ourselves that diversity is a strength?
Second, I must say that your topic was a bit of a surprise. I have long been semi-active in my local gay community--and fairly active in my local Democrtatic Party. I honestly don't recall any conversation with other gays that demeaned Buttigieg. To the contrary, the people I speak with seem to have considerable respect for him. Different circles, I guess--and admittedly, my circle is a small one (I live in Honolulu).
One last observation: there is nothing milquetoast about the transportation secretary when he is at a Congressional hearing. His ability to draw on a broad array of facts--some rather obscure--to silence members of the GOP who are fishing for a "gotcha" moment is nothing short of brilliant.
