Agreed ... not a lifetime certificate for all you can eat at Sizzler--but not half off a Subway sandwich either. I have hired, supervised and promoted literally hundreds of people over the span of my career, and white applicants simply don't provoke the kind of concerns that Black and other ethnic candidates elicit: what if I inadvertently say something offensive? will he or she eventually sue us? how much do we need to adapt to his or her culture? am I going to have to walk around on pins and needles?
It isn't fair, but it is reality and it isn't changing as fast as we might like to think. White privilege still carries significant value in many ways that aren't immediately obvious to everyone. So not Sizzler and not Subway ... maybe an all expenses paid vacation at the Moana Surfrider in Waikiki for ten days ... and $10K to spend any way that you like when you get back home.
