A fair response. As you know, there are different style guides and usage varies in different parts of the country. What an English teacher judges acceptable and what an editor deems ‘correct’ may not be the same. And of course, all of these words are in the public domain which gives writers license to use them pretty much any way they wish (especially self-published writers). My point—and perhaps it was poorly made—was that the author’s usage of the terms may be unconventional or perhaps even archaic, but the criticism that he received was a bit overstated.
